Night of Sciences 2017

On October 6, 2017, from 17:00 to 22:00, the traditional Night of Scientists took place in the building of the Faculty of Science. This year topic was Mobility.

The Department of Chemistry was represented mainly on 2 sites. A popularization show on Chemistry and Movement was held in the lecture classroom. Vaclav Slovák and his assistants (Gabriela Hotová, Eva Kinnertová and Tomáš Zelenka) explained and demonstrated the nature of motion in physical and chemical processes (bubble blowing, hydrogen banging, fuel burning). Another set of exciting experiments covered explosives, ammunition and weapons (attempts to demonstrate rocket propulsion, a rifle, and a shotgun). The show was very visually and engaging, and the audience certainly took a lot of new information.

The second place (Kateřina Trčková, Martin Mucha, Lenka Bláhová and students) offered an analysis of the participiants´ own water supply, pH measurement or the possibility of performing of water experiments. There was no need for participants, the room was almost always full.

At the other stations, the other departments of the Faculty of Science were represented with lots of interesting demonstrations, experiments and activities. We look forward to the 2018 Scientific Day!
